Sunday 20th August 1967; Derrynane Abbey, once the home of 'The Liberator', Daniel O'Connell, was opened by President Eamon de Valera. Mass was celebrated by Daniel O'Connell's great great grandson Rev. John M O'Connell of London, in the Chapel that Daniel O'Connell built onto the 18th Century House.
