. 14th June. A Plane Crash at Farranfore Airport

14th June 1970; Karl Hissenauer lost his life and Chris Gallagher was seriously injured when their plane, a Cessna 150, crashed at Farranfore airstrip. Two young men from Castleisland, John Browne and Liam O'Connor, pulled Mr. Hissenauer and Mr. Gallagher from the cockpit. The injured men were rushed to St. Catherine's Hospital in Tralee, where Mr. Hissenauer later died. The crash happened during a take-off attempt as part of Mr. Hissenauer's training as a light aircraft pilot.
