29th September 1967; Decorations Committee member  Jerome murphy clips the first strands off the beard of Mayor Carl Wicke with a scissors during the Harvest Festival while Mrs Frances Condell, former Mayor of Limerick and one of the judges of the Wrenboy Competition looks on. Mayor Wicke of Listowel, Ontario, the twin town of Listowel, Co. Kerry, grew the beard as part of the Canadian Centennial Celebrations in July 1966.
