31st August 1962: Coins dating back to the Reign of King James II were found at Crotta, Kilflynn. The coins dated 1689 and 1690 were found by 14 year old William Buckley when he was driving his mother's cattle to water. He spotted four of the 29 coins in the passageway of the river which had apparently been uprooted by the cattle's hooves. Using knives, William and his brother John unearthed the coins - sixpences, shillings and half-crowns.
