A Protest in Denny Street
October 1972; Kevin Barry, Rock Street, Tralee, speaking at a protest for Kevin O'Kelly in Denny Street, Tralee. Jerry Savage, Ballymacelligott, is fourth from the right in the photo. RTE journalist Kevin O'Kelly made a radio report on an interview he had done with the then Chief of Staff of the Provisional IRA, Sean MacStiofáin. Some days later MacStiofáin was arrested and charged with IRA membership. Kevin O'Kelly was subpoenaed into court to identify him as the man he had interviewed. When, on journalistic ethics, O'Kelly refused, he was sent to Mountjoy prison.
