French Trawler 'Men-Hir' Strikes A Rock

27th February 1962; A Seventy-Foot French Trawler, with a crew of eight, struck a rock near the Blasket Islands at midnight. As a result, there was a gaping hole in the bow when it arrived in Dingle for repair at the Boat-building Yard. At the time of the accident, the trawler was laden with fish and was on the way home to the Port of St Guencie, Brittany from the Aran Islands fishing Grounds.
