A Spanish Armada Expedition
April 1968; Roy Pearson, one of the divers searching for the wreckage of the 'Santa Maria de la Rose', a treasure ship from the Spanish Armada that sank in September, 1588. Mr Sydney Wignall, a Welsh businessman, had been searching the sea bed near the Blasket Islands for the 945 ton vessel. There was fierce competition between Mr Wignall's team and St Helen's Underwater Group, a Lancashire diving club, to find the treasure ship.
