

Ardfert Parish Schools Strike
24th January 1968; Mr Jerry Allman, President Irish National Teachers Organisation, Inspects one of the five parish schools that were temporarily closed by the INTO during a dispute over inadequate heating and unsanitary conditions. The schools were Ardfert, Banna, Barrow, Kilmoyley and Tubrid. After the dispute, four of the schools were re-opened after electric lighting and oil-fired heating were installed. The schools were painted, and the toilets and yards were cleaned up. Barrow School was closed, and Sheila Griffin it's teacher, and 24 pupils were transferred to Ardfert.
