

Record Catch Caught In Tralee Bay
8th June 1965; Almost a ton and a half of fish, including five specimens, were landed by twelve anglers during a boat-angling competition in Tralee Bay on Whit Sunday. The 98 tope, monkfish, dogfish and skate caught weighed 3,262 lbs. First Prize, the Godley Cup, was won by Mr Charlie O'Brien of Killarney, with 419 lbs. Second Prize was won by Mr Willie Moriarty, Fenit, with 402 lbs, and third was Mr. Jack O'Reilly, Tralee, with 334 lbs. Two foreign anglers also took part. They were Mr W A Simmons from England, who caught 277 lbs, and Mr Jan De Boer from Holland, who caught 112 lbs including a 50 lb specimen monkfish. The other specimen fish were caught by Phil McCarthy (60 lb monkfish); Jim Browne (59 lb monkfish) and Pat O'Mahony (30 lb monkfish).
