Bill Verity in Fenit
13th July 1966; Atlantic Sailor Bill Verity (left), a 40 year old Irish American from Florida, crossed the Atlantic alone in a 12 foot boat, the Nonoalca, that he built himself, setting the record for the smallest boat to cross the Atlantic. Leaving Florida on the 8th May, the 4,500 mile journey took 65 days. Mr. Verity wanted to prove that a Kerryman, St. Brendan, could have crossed the Atlantic in 'A Boat of Skin'.
