St Brendan's Mountaineering Club on Mount Brandon

16th May 1965; Members of St Brendan's Mountaineering Club in front of the Grotto at the foot of Mount Brandon after their annual ascent of the mountain on the feast of St Brendan. The staue of Our Lady is in Sicilian marble and it was hoped to complete the Grotto with statues of St Brendan and St. Patrick, also in Sicilian Marble, which is the only stone that can withstand the harsh conditions on the mountain. One hundred residents of Brandon each donated 1 Pound to the fund. Included in the photo are: Thomas Flynn, Peggy O'Donnell, Brid Flynn, Kathleen Flynn, JJ Finn, Tom O'Connor, Tim Rohan, JJ Brick, James O'Sullivan, Redmond Downey, Colm Ryle, Mary O'Connor, Alice McElligott, Laurence Courtney. Jerry Kennelly, Padraig Kennelly Junior and Marion Parker are at the front of the group.
