Valentia Lifeboat Call-out
14th September 1966; Valentia Lifeboat was called out to the Blasket Islands where three men were reported to be in distress and without food. The men sailed to the islands for the weekend, but the sea got too rough to return. Two of the men refused help. Only one man, John Poynton from Dublin, boarded the lifeboat and was taken to Valentia. The Lifeboat Secretary, Ciaran O'Driscoll, was furious as the men had wasted time and resources.
