Ms Mai McCarthy

10th May-19th June 1969; An 88-year-old patient in Sneem Hospital expressed a wish to meet Madame de Gaulle. French Speaking Mrs Mai McCarthy, who was born in Kenmare but lived in Sneem up until 1962, spent a number of years in Paris. She was governess to many aristocratic families there. When she met and greeted Madame De Gaulle they realised that they had met in the past. Mrs McCarthy was govereness to Madame De Gaulle's family in Calais when she was only 14 years old.
